This is a centuries-old folk song with a cry of heartbreak so simple and clear that it still moves me across the generations. I’ve always loved it and wanted to give it a new tune that captured the darkness of the lyrics. I was joined by the amazing Anna Rheingans on banjo and Zak Hobbs on guitar. We arranged the song in the cabin in my garden earlier this year and recorded it live to tape at Northern Cowboys Studios in Sheffield. I really hope you love it.
