‘A Little Game to Play’ new single out now
Dear friends,
I hope you’ve all had a lovely week and have been enjoying the sunshine (if you’re in the U.K.) I’m writing to you from the teeny Outer Hebrides island of Eriskay, which is not so sunny just now. More on that later, but for now…
It’s a special day for me because my new single ‘A Little Game to Play’ is out now everywhere you listen to music, including on my Bandcamp page.
This song was recorded as part of the live-to-tape sessions for my album, ‘Love it is a Killing Thing’, but I took it off the album because it felt too delicate, and as an entirely original song without any traditional antecedent, it didn’t quite fit the concept.
But I wanted you to have it anyway, as a little post-album offering. I would love it if you’d give it a listen and maybe even consider downloading and sharing with a music-loving pal.
It was inspired by 1960s and 70s folk songwriting, especially writers like Janis Ian and Tia Blake. It’s a simple slip of a song, reaching for an innocent past self who used to play love like a game, but has since become disillusioned. It’s full of longing and regret. It might provide a wistful, melancholic soundtrack for your weekend.
I’m delighted that the excellent musicians Zak Hobbs, Mark Lewis, Thomas Dibb and Bethany Porter were able to add guitar, bass, mellotron, percussion and cello respectively.
Thank you for reading, as always, and for listening.
Love,
Maz
